The earth's temperature rarely rises above 130°C, even at depths of several thousand metres. Deep geothermal power is still on the starting blocks in Germany, while thermal pumping stations using geothermal water sources at or near the surface or in the top layers of the earth - even at relatively low water temperatures - have been successfully used for providing hot water and heating mainly in private households for thirty years.
