Small HEP plants deliver power to the Ratnapura region in Sri Lanka

The island state of Sri Lanka is predestined for the use of hydroelectric power - a multitude of rivers carry water masses from the rainy mountain regions down a steep gradient to the sea all year round. Using this natural situation, untold numbers of reservoirs and irrigation lakes have been laid that serve to supply agricultural crop-growing areas in arid areas with water, and also to supply most of the island?s power.
